Peters Amazing Worm Castings
There are some of the key benefits of using earthworm castings (Vermicompost).
Earthworms improve soil conditions through aeration by burrowing in pursuit of food. This constant aeration of the soil results in less evaporation and surface run-off, thereby providing for more efficient use of moisture introduced to the soil.
Each earthworm ingests its weight in organic matter every twenty four hours. Its intricate digestive tract makes it possible for the earthworms to excrete highly nutritious fertilizer known as castings. These castings are the most perfect plant food known to man, and contain: 5 times the available nitrogen, 7 times the available phosphorus, 3 times the exchangeable magnesium, 11 times the available potash, and 11/2 times more calcium than found in six inches of good topsoil. The increases are directly attributable to the organic matter eaten by earthworms. Castings are water soluble and immediately available to plant life. Castings do not heat and will not burn plants regardless of the quantity made available to the plant.
Worm castings make the best worm tea from the castings and can be applied directly to the leaves of plants or injected to the root system. This is called power supercharging your plants with a nutrient boost. No other treatment can be as beneficial like worm tea feeding for any plants, grasses, fruits, veggies, or flowers. You cannot burn or overfeed with worm tea or earthworm castings.
Benefits of Worm Castings:
• Rich nutrients for your plants in a form they can use
• Natural enzymes and growth stimulants
• Living Soil aeration, improved drainage and moisture retention
• Microbial life is enhanced-EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for living soil health
• Mucus is coated, which allows nutrients to “time release"
• Worm castings Balances the pH of your soil
• Repels pests and disease
• Vermicompost Will not “burn” tender plantings use as much as you like
Naturally Organic and Odor Free
Worm castings come straight from the earthworm with no alterations. Nothing is added or changed. The earthworm does it all. There is no odor, so you can use it directly from the bag on indoor plants.
Will Not Burn
With worm castings, you never have to worry about over fertilizing. Worm castings will not burn at any concentration. You can even start seeds or root cuttings in pure worm castings.
Improves Soil Structure
Worm castings are cylindrically shaped pellets that resist compaction and keep the soil loose. This allows roots the ability to grow fast and fibrous. It also allows for excellent drainage so roots don’t become waterlogged.
Beneficial Bacteria and Microbes
Worm castings contain high concentrations of beneficial bacteria and microbes that are added by the earthworm in the digestive process. These microscopic creatures help different elements of the soil work in conjunction with each other to create healthy, living soil that provides the best possible atmosphere for optimum growth.
High Availability of Nutrients
The digestive tract of the earthworm grinds and uniformly mixes the nutrients and trace elements found in the soil into simple forms, so plants need only minimal effort to obtain them yet also remain available in the soil for long term use. This allows plants to feed as needed for weeks at a time.
In addition to containing Nitrogen, our worm castings also contain small amounts of Phosphorus and Potassium and the trace minerals Iron, Calcium, Magnesium, Sulfur, Boron, Copper, Zinc and Manganese.
Contain Plant Growth Hormones
Worm castings naturally contain Auxins and Cytokinins, which are growth hormones that promote bigger and more fibrous plant roots.
